Catgirl Web Interactive Guarantee: I make good websites
“The Web Sucks But It Doesn’t Have To!”
What’s wrong with the modern web? Sadly a lot, especially for mobile or disabled users, and I guarantee many of your customers fall into those categories!
And now:
A brief list of everything insufferable on the mobile web that my websites address:
- Disconnect between what customers and bean counters want
- how-i-experience-web-today.com
- Anti-customer cookie preferences
- Pestering users for email lists no one wants
- "Send notifications?" modal then system notifications modal
- Anti-adblocker window
- Banner pestering users to download the app for a "better experience"
- “Continue reading” with freemium options or harvesting user data
Finally at the site, you're met with:
- "Rate your experience!1!!" modals and dialogs
- Useless AI chatbot window that costs your business a fortune to keep up with the Joneses
- Obtrusive banners, footers, social links
- Scrolling popups
- Bullshit that scrolls with you and obscures your view
- Embedded video players that don’t even work
- Video shoved in your face when text/images would work fine
- ANY autoplaying sounds
- Ableist inaccessible html that doesn’t work with screenreaders
This isn't the 90s, and despite protests that the web is hopelessly broken, we can make a compromise with the bean counters that doesn’t sacrifice customers on a pike of data points.
And the developer side is needlessly complicated (and crucially for your business, expensive), too! We worked so hard to find solutions to problems that a financially significant amount of developer hours are put towards either maintaining or ripping out these solutions. We keep solving the problems we created, and it doesn't have to be like this.
